Comments: This slow-growing group of hybrids resulted from a cross between M. kobus and M. stellata. The plants bloom in early spring but may turn brown when injured by late frost. The flowers are very fragrant and flowering begins when the plants are quite young. The plant may be grown in sun or shade.

Cultivars:
'Merrill' - The showy, 3-inch white flowers are borne in early spring. A little later than some others, it is less likely to have frost damage on its flowers.
